The Strongest Voice You Have Never Heard

I am sitting in the hallway waiting area as my wife is in surgery. Few people realize just what a towering person she is. The doctors and staff see another patient. She stands barely 5ft 1inch and weighs little more than a hundred pounds. She is one of the most soft-spoken people you will ever meet. But she is an absolute giant. I know. I have searched. Few have experienced what she has experienced and even fewer have leaned on the Lord the way that she has. She was a teenager who became a wife and mother. Against all odds she succeeded at having a stable family and life. After praying for 7 years her husband gave his life to Christ. They were a happy, loving, Christian couple with 2 small children. He was 6ft 5in and nearly 300lbs, but she was the Rock of faith. When the love of her life tragically got sick from cancer she became the mighty mother and wife who could do everything necessary for her family. When he died after a hard fought nine-month battle she bravely led her family as a single mother of two. Only those close enough knew that when they were walking near her they were walking with a giant. Nine months later I heard her meekly utter the words, “God is my husband” with sincere thanksgiving to her father in heaven. I have stood back in awe of how one so small, soft, and tender could loom so great and large in heart. I was so amazed by it that I prayed that God would give me a wife like her. The next year he gave me her.

After nearly 16 years of ministry in 3 churches, raising 4 children, and caring for 2 ailing parents I can say with the greatest confidence that she is the strongest voice you have never heard. Her volume is not measured in depth of sound but in depth of character, commitment, and love. The story of Our Gracious God is revealed in every loving breath that she breathes- without even saying a word.
