My Cup Overflows

Psalm 23:5

Every life is like a cup.  We each have one.  The things that are around us in life are like the things poured into the cup.  Some cups are half full. The blessings of God are poured out in this world in various and wonderful ways.  Consider the way God shares his blessings by using other people.  This will be expressions of the fruits of God’s Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  These are commonly expressed by the people of God everyday, like water being poured from a cup.  They received it from God through Christ.  He gave us his riches.  But, there is no way that your cup can hold all the riches of God’s grace.  Your cup is not big enough to store it all.  So God created a church filled with many cups.  Still, the blessings of God abound more and more so that they must be shared with as many as possible.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.  Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.” James 1:17-18

You see, the blessings must continually be poured out on others.  It is the nature of the gift and the giver.  He gives the good and pours it out on us.  We in turn are made able to shower those gifts on others.  They are spiritual riches and blessings.  These are the treasures of the saints.  Like Christ we pour out our life and God refills it again.  There is no end to the riches of the goodness of Christ.  A Christian’s life must constantly be emptied that God may fill it once more.
