HI-TECH TEMPTATION

Sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.
Genesis 4:7b

I am not what many would consider a big technology guy. I know and can do just enough to get by (I rely on my wife and kids for the rest). I am thankful for the many great things that technology brings. It has done wonders for connecting churches with ministries all across the globe. Right here in Waco, our church has been blessed to be able to share and be apart of the ministries of our missionaries from Africa to New Zealand. We are able to talk, share, sing, pray, and be inspired as if we were all in the same room. Technology has changed the way we can study the Bible. A single computer can replace countless books to aid in understanding and translating Scripture. Websites like Biblegateway, BibleHub, BlueletterBible, etc. allow for easy searching for translations, languages, and many other tools.
However there are many other sides to living in the digital age that troubles me greatly. Any one who has spent enough time in front of a tv, computer, or mobile device knows what I’m talking about. There are what could be thought of as the electronic equivalent to parasites. One click and they are able to attach themselves to who ever is watching. These come in many varieties. They are sins of perversion, pride, and idolatry. Today’s technology is pervasive. If not careful people lose themselves in time killing obsessions that offer little benefit to themselves or others. This is especially concerning for younger Christians who have yet to develop deeply grounded conviction in their commitment to Jesus. They do not see these activities for what they are.
As Christians living in today’s world we must prepare our hearts and mind’s for the Spiritual battles we face each day. Temptation is not going away. We must rely on the Holy Spirit with each step we take knowing God is present, active, and able. Remember this,
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2Timothy 1:7
