“Where there is no vision the people perish”
Proverbs 29:18 KJV

As a Houston Texans fan, I remember hearing about this rookie defensive lineman who came into training camp in 2011 with a “life plan”. He had written down goals and daily plans so that he could be the best on and off the field. Now, J.J. Watt is a household name to any football fan, but it all started with a vision this young man had for his life. Whether you are a recent graduate, professional, or retired it is good to have plans and goals for living.
When I read the Bible or go to church, I am inspired by the many men and women who have dedicated their lives to giving God the very best of what they have. They are focused on serving others, giving and forgiving as they seek to become more like Jesus. They are able to do great things not because of their own greatness, but because of their belief in the one who can do the impossible. Christians have been called to share in God’s mission for the world.
I remember Caleb’s faith as he went out along with eleven other spies from Israel to view the promised land. He told the people, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” (Numbers 13:30 NIV). God gave him a vision of what could be when others were fearful and doubting. Israel’s lack of faithful vision caused them to be aimless wanderers for 40 years. God blessed Caleb to survive and enter the promised land. Even at 80 years of age he still held on to his vision as he proclaimed, “Give me this mountain” (Joshua 14:12 KJV). Now that’s what I call focus! God’s people find their strength, courage and vigor not of themselves but from whom they believe. God is our source of energy and inspiration for life. When our spiritual life is failing we often lose sight of the goal God has for us. Are we focused on eternity? Do our daily lives reflect the goal of heaven? Start putting God’s Word into practice in your life. Join him in his mission for humanity!
